So What is Law of Attraction?

So what is LoA?  My kids refer to it as my “hippy shit” (I have old kids). I guess they’re not wrong, but the ideas are older than hippies. They actually go back thousands of years. Or so the podcasts tell me, I haven’t fact checked that, but I like the idea of it. I'm still learning but, in my simplest understanding, the Law of Attraction is the principle that "like energy" attracts “like energy”. Remember those science class physics experiments you did when you were in school? The ones where you energized things to see if they would become magnets? It’s the same idea. Mostly. You're just energizing yourself, instead of a needle, to attract the things you want to you. When you’re happy, your happy energy attracts other things with happy energy. When you’re frustrated, you attract things with frustrated energy. Pretty simple, right? Like attracts Like. The hard part is making yourself feel happy when you feel frustrated. Abraham calls this “moving up the emo...

Wait, what...?

Back in October, when I listened to that first podcast about LoA while at work, the speaker referenced Abraham, repeatedly. None of us knew who Abraham was, so we googled it. Wikipedia said this: Esther Hicks, often credited as Abraham Hicks, is an American inspirational speaker and author. She has co-written nine books with her late husband Jerry Hicks, presented numerous workshops on the law of attraction with Abraham Hicks Publications and appeared in the original version of the 2006 film The Secret. A pseudonym, we decided, a very normal thing, and continued listening. The next day another friend joined us for work. “We’re listening to LoA podcasts,” we told her, like experts. “Oh, I’m big into law of attraction,” she said. “I’m really great at manifesting.” I nodded at her as if I knew what she was talking about, and like I didn’t think she was stupidly woowoo. I’m pretty sure that I didn’t roll my eyes, and that I looked smart. When the podcast started, and Abrah...

Law of Attraction...?

I watched a bootlegged copy of The Secret back in 2006. And like almost everyone else that watched the movie or read the book back then, I was going to be a millionaire. I felt positive feelings, I emoted, and I wished for money. Well, I'm not a millionaire, I'm not even rich. When my cash didn't manifest into my bank account 13 years ago, I quickly moved on. I didn't disregard it completely, I just acknowledged that it wasn't something I was great at, and like most things I''m not great at, I left it behind. Then a few months ago, I started working in a new situation with a couple friends I'd known for years and years, but hadn't really spent much time with recently. One of the things they do after lunch break, is listen to podcasts. Honestly, I hand't listened to too many podcasts up until then (I'm now addicted), so I didn't have an opinion on what to listen to, I let them choose and just listened. After listening to a rather...
